Canberra Breakfast

Canberra Breakfast Inc

The Zonta Club of Canberra Breakfast Inc. was incorporated in 2003. We are supporting the women in Australia's National Capital by providing funding and hands on service, such as:

  • Karinya House: A refuge and support centre for young mothers. Canberra Breakfast Club donates funds and works with Karinya on projects such as working bees at their homes, and helpers at the ACT Mother’s Day in Glebe Park event.
  • Young Women in Public Affairs Award: a Zonta International programme for young women aged between 16 & 20, not yet at Uni, who do volunteer work in their local community. Club applications will open in October 2008 and the winner to be announced in 2009. $500 prize plus the chance to win at District and International levels. Contact Penny for an official application form.
  • CIT "2nd Chance Scholarship: a scholarship for an older woman who is heading into study at CIT to take the opportunity to change her life through learning new skills.
  • Breast Care Cushions: Cushions are handmade to assist women who have undergone breast surgery to elevate their arm slightly from the body while walking, sleeping, or sitting. A cushion is presented immediately after surgery as a gift from Zonta. This is a Zonta District 24 endorsed project. Sew, Stuff and Sip sessions occur every 2 months and we make enough cushions so that every woman in the ACT region who needs a cushion gets a cushion.
  • Birthing kits: Designed by the Zonta Club of Adelaide Hills and funded by Zonta Clubs in Australia with support from AusAID. Packaged and distributed to local health services in developing countries.
